Hurricane Electric Significantly Expands Global Internet Backbone Reach in Eastern Europe with Six New Internet Exchange Connections

New network expansion will reduce latency and router hops for Eastern European customers

BUDAPEST, Hungary & SOFIA, Bulgaria & BUCHAREST, Romania--()--Hurricane Electric, the world’s largest IPv6-native Internet backbone and a leading colocation provider, today announced that it has further expanded its Eastern European presence by connecting to the Budapest Internet Exchange (BIX), Balkan Internet Exchange (B-IX), Bulgarian Internet Exchange (BIX.BG), InterLAN Exchange, NetIX and the Romanian Network Internet Exchange (RoNIX).

The network expansion will enable Hurricane Electric to improve fault tolerance, load balancing and congestion management infrastructure capabilities for the delivery of IPv4 and IPv6 access services. The new connections will reduce latency and router hops for Internet traffic at all five locations. Additionally, the direct connectivity paths will increase the reach of Hurricane Electric’s infrastructure and services.

“This expansion will give customers of BIX, B-IX, BIX.BG, InterLAN Exchange, NetIX and RoNIX the ability to tap into Hurricane Electric’s rich global network and experience greater bandwidth and reduced latency,” said Mike Leber, President of Hurricane Electric. “Customers throughout the globe continue to demand greater Internet options and Hurricane Electric is pleased to meet and exceed their expectations.”
