COLOMBES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oberthur Technologies, a world leader in digital security solutions for the mobility space, today reveals Lasink™, its patented technology enabling the company to generate a colour photo on any polycarbonate card by laser engraving.
A combination of polycarbonate and laser engraving is the dominant technology on the Identity market. Currently, the main limitation of laser engraved polycarbonate is to only support a photo printed in different shades of grey. This restriction severely limits the possibility to use the photo on a document in order to identify its holder and it paves the way for fraud. So far, every proposal to combine laser engraving, polycarbonate and a colour photo, has resulted in polycarbonate cards laminated with another polymer sheet. Unfortunately, such card constructions have a shorter life span and are prone to delaminating.
The Lasink™ solution, based on Color Laser Image Print (C.L.I.P), an exclusive and patented technology from OT, offers today both a 10-year life span for the cards and the best security possible, in particular a card body which is impossible to delaminate.
Lasink™ is not only a technological breakthrough, it is also a key industrial step in the research for a practical solution with colour polycarbonate. It relies on a very smart combination of proven technologies, already used in the field for more than ten years.
“The Identity market has been expecting such a breakthrough for more than a decade. With Lasink™, we meet all the expectations and we are very pleased to offer governments a unique and innovative solution to secure all the ID credentials from fraud and identity theft” said Pierre Jurek, Marketing and Strategy Director of the Identity Business Unit at OT.
Lasink™ is exhibited at Cartes 2013. Visit OT’s booth (Hall 3 – 3E001) to discover all comprehensive ranges of services and solutions.
