Baker’s Pfaehler Elected President of Association for Preservation Technology International

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--()--Gretchen Pfaehler, AIA, assistant vice president and director of historic preservation at Michael Baker Jr., Inc., a company of Michael Baker International, LLC, was recently elected President of the Association for Preservation Technology International (APT) at the organization’s annual conference in October 2013.

The Association for Preservation Technology International is an international cross-disciplinary organization dedicated to promoting the best technology for conserving historic structures and their settings. Celebrating 45 years, the organization includes preservationists, architects, engineers, conservators, consultants, contractors, craftspersons, curators, developers, educators, historians, landscape architects, students, technicians and other persons from more than 30 countries directly involved in the application of methods and materials to maintain, conserve and protect historic structures and sites for future use and appreciation.

Based in Alexandria, Va., Pfaehler is also Chair of the Historic Preservation Review Board in Washington, D.C. She has over 20 years of experience in the preservation, restoration and renovation of historic buildings and landscapes across the United States. Widely recognized as an expert in her field, Pfaehler has lectured and published extensively on historic preservation and sustainability within the existing building context. Her expertise includes technical building documentation and assessments, integration of sustainable solutions and building material treatments, preservation laws, and review processes and regulations applied to historic preservation projects. Her work has been recognized with more than 27 national, regional, state and local preservation awards. She is an active member of the American Institute of Architects, American Institute for Conservation of Historic & Artistic Works, National Trust for Historic Preservation, American Association for State and Local History, Wisconsin State Historical Society and the Michigan State Historical Society.
