TROY, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--In conjunction with America Recycles DaySM, KW Plastics is reaffirming its commitment to the environment by taking the America Recycles Pledge and is encouraging both businesses and individuals to join them in doing so.
“At KW, our commitment to the environment encompasses more than just the services we provide in the actual plastics recycling process,” said J. Scott Saunders, General Manager of KW Plastics, Recycling Division. “At KW, our commitment also includes providing plastic recycling education for the general public and technical assistance to businesses pursuing innovative recyclable products.”
Because plastic is durable, lighter in weight than many other substrates, and versatile, when used and reused properly, it can actually help to reduce waste and energy use. For example, packaging made from lighter weight substrates such as plastic can result in lighter loads or fewer trucks and railcars needed to ship product, helping to reduce transportation energy, decrease emissions, and lower shipping costs.
For consumers, recycling continues to be easier, with more than 90 percent of Americans having access to plastics recycling. “Not only can individuals engage in small acts such as curbside recycling, they can also participate in community drop-off recycling programs to create a viable second life for plastics goods,” added Saunders. “Many may not realize that reclaimed plastic bottles, containers, and bulky rigids like pails and lawn furniture often become everything from new bottles to paint cans to even parts of their automobile.”
For businesses, recycling initiatives can span from providing employee recycling outlets to developing innovative and recyclable products. “We were very excited when Berry Plastics Group, Inc. came to us to test the recyclability of their new #5 plastic Versalite cup. Our test results demonstrated that the Versalite cups behaved just like standard polypropylene in the recycling stream,” explained Saunders. “Berry Plastics’ innovation and our tests helped bring to market a viable alternative to today’s current less recyclable to-go hot cups. We look forward to receiving and recycling the Versalite cups as their market presence increases.”
“Please join us in reaffirming your commitment to our environment and our citizens of tomorrow – take the America Recycles Pledge today,” added Saunders.
