BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Baobab Foods has commissioned a new nutritional study by Brunswick Laboratories. Results of the test indicate that baobab’s bioavailability exceeds that of acai, pomegranate and grape seed extracts. Unlike freeze-dried superfruit extracts, baobab is a raw, whole food that requires no processing.
The natural properties of baobab from southern African Baobab are demonstrably unique, delivering six times the antioxidants found in baobab from other regions. An organic, gluten free, raw whole food, baobab supports a healthy immune system and lowers inflammation throughout the body with its unique mix of fiber and antioxidants. Baobab’s nutritional properties include:
- Antioxidants – more than blueberries, pomegranate, goji berries and acai
- Fiber – composed of 50% total fiber of which 75% is ultra-healthy soluble fiber
- Calcium – gram for gram, more calcium than milk
- Vitamin C – six times more than orange juice
- Electrolytes – high levels of magnesium, and more potassium than bananas or coconut water
“Everyone who studies baobab is simply amazed by the sheer number of nutrients in this superfruit, and how uniquely it’s suited to benefit the human body,” stated Stephan Broburg, general manager, Baobab Foods. “All other fruits pale in comparison, nutritionally speaking, which is leading dozens of food and beverage manufacturers to explore how to make baobab a cornerstone ingredient for future products.”
Baobab is the fruit of the iconic tree with the same name found in Africa, Madagascar and parts of Australia. The Baobab tree, often called by locals as “The Tree of Life,” can live for more than 2,000 years.
Baobab Foods is exploring opportunities with a number of leading food manufacturers to incorporate baobab into a wide variety of products, including beverages, smoothies, nutrition powders, trail mixes, cereals, granola bars, covered in chocolate, and numerous other applications.
At SupplySide West in Las Vegas this week, Baobab Foods (Booth# 24007) will exhibit its line of Baobab Fruit Powder, Drink Mixes, and new Fruit Cubes. The company will also be discussing other botanicals sourced from southern Africa, including:
- 20% standardized polyphenol Rooibos tea extract
- 30% standardized fulvic acid powder
- Standardized Moringa leaf extract powder
- Marula oil
- Baobab oil
