The Prime Minister of Qatar Inaugurates the Region’s Premier Emergency College

Dr. Al-Sada: RLESC is a Major Strategic Initiative in Public Safety and Emergency Management

DOHA, Qatar--()--His Excellency the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Nasser Bin Khalifa Al-Thani officially inaugurated the state-of-the-art Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC) at Ras Laffan Industrial City today.

The opening ceremony was attended by Their Excellencies Dr. Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada the Minister of Energy and Industry; Mr. Mohamed Al-Hammadi, the Minister of Education and Higher Education; and Mr. Jassim Al-Sulaiti, the Minister of Transport. Also in attendance were senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, Civil Defence, and Qatar Petroleum, as well as foreign guests and a number of oil and gas industry leaders and safety professionals.

RLESC – a result of a partnership between Qatar Petroleum and the Ministry of Interior - is a premier emergency and safety training college designed to provide advanced training to professionals in a variety of sectors in Qatar as well as the greater Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

The College is spread over a total of 1,000,000 meters and equipped with modern classrooms, range of simulators and indoor and outdoor facilities.

His Excellency the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohammed Bin Saleh Al-Sada said, “This college is part of the greater vision of the State, and a reflection of our commitment for initiatives that meet the ambitions and vision of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar.”

Dr. Al-Sada said, “RLESC is aimed at raising the level of local and regional capabilities in public safety and emergency management, which makes it one of the most important initiatives in this field.”

His Excellency added that, “The college will serve the industrial sector from its location in the world’s biggest natural gas liquefaction site. It will serve as an important tool in protecting lives and properties.”

RLESC will initially offer training and courses in fire emergency and safety, industrial fire fighting, search and rescue, hazardous materials, emergency medical services, and civil defence and aviation.

“RLESC is a testament of our resolve to become a hallmark of emergency safety training,” said Khalid Al-Ansari, Manager of Ras Laffan Emergency & Safety College.

The training partner and provider of Emergency Training at RLESC is Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX). Further, almost all of the RLESC Emergency Training courses are accredited by the National Board on fire Service Professional Qualifications ‘ProBoard’, U.S.

RLESC has begun a joint field-research in liquefied natural gas, which is being supervised by Texas A&M University at Qatar with support from British Petroleum.

Meanwhile, QP has signed an MoU with the University of New Haven, Connecticut, U.S. for offering diplomas and a 4-year degree in the fire safety management and fire protection engineering.
