University at Albany Moves toward Healthy Options for Student Dining with the Newly Opened UFood Grill.

ALBANY, N.Y.--()--Returning from an extended weekend, UAlbany students encountered UFood Grill open and ready to serve, replacing the Wendy’s brand previously occupying the space. The UFood Grill brand features unique, popular products such as; Grilled Panini-sandwiches, UBowls, Steak Tips, Smuuthies and healthy side dishes such as salads or steamed broccoli. The usual suspects, burgers and fries, have a new twist highlighting the healthier and tastier choices like, Chipotle Turkey Burger or Bison Burger and Unfries.

Sodexo and UAlbany made the joint decision to partner with UFood Grill after listening to student needs for healthier options. Gloria Chabot – Director of Retail Dining for Sodexo, said in a statement, “The students spoke and we listened - they were very clear communicating the desire for great service, great taste, healthy options and cook-to-order as a must for the retail brand selections. “ “UFood Grill is a great addition to our overall retail portfolio on campus. We are pleased to have a grill brand that is healthier than the typical chain offerings, but without any loss in flavor. UFood Grill also provides menu selections that are very different from what you would find in a typical hamburger restaurant,” stated Executive Director Stephen Pearse, University Auxiliary Services at Albany.

Students and Faculty alike have been responsive in their support of the UFood Grill brand. Alexa Sheryll – UAlbany student, commented “The Chicken Pesto Panini is the best item on campus. Another thing I liked was the choice of steamed broccoli instead of fries, they were fantastic and it was a great healthy substitute.”

Sodexo continues to improve their healthy options with UFood Grill. Donna Duffy – Campus Dietitian said, “UFood Grill offers the UAlbany community nutritious foods cooked in a way that helps to preserve the nutrients in them – no frying here! UFood also has an extensive vegetarian option menu as well as a number of gluten free foods to choose from. It’s all about choices and UFood gives our students and faculty plenty of healthy food options to choose from.”

The rumor on campus is that even the executive staff enjoys the “Great Dane” smuuthie, exclusively created for UAlbany, by UFood Grill. If you see one of these executives with a purple smuuthie in hand – just smile and act naturally.
