Campus Quad Unveils New App That Empowers Students to Tap into Their Campus Community

Duke University, Stanford University, and Foothill College First to Roll Out Campus Quad This Fall

SAN FRANCISCO--()--Campus Quad, creators of an innovative social mobile communication technology for college campuses, today announced that Duke University, Stanford University, and Foothill College are rolling out the groundbreaking Campus Quad platform and app to students this fall. The company also announced that it has received $1.5 million in seed funding from Follett Corporation and ICG Ventures Inc., an Ingram Content Group company.

Developed to leverage college students’ use of smartphones, averaging 3.6 hours per day, Campus Quad provides a mobile-first way for all campus members to create and share a photo flyer with a campus community in seconds. Flyer categories such as Photo, Event, Classified, and Coupon help students and administrators reach the optimal audience for their post, which can be shared with the entire campus, a designated group, or privately. At any time -- day or night -- Campus Quad has a pulse on what is happening on and around the campus so students can follow and engage with their interests, friends, clubs and campus resources.

“Our mission is to give students a collective voice in their campus community by connecting them to learning opportunities and social experiences that fuel success,” said Frances Cairns, Founder and CEO of Campus Quad. “The Campus Quad app enables every student to be the creator and owner of content, empowering them to drive their own college experience. Flyers are presented in a social, location-based and mobile format that immediately resonate with today’s always-connected student. Campus Quad delivers the rich experiences and services a university has to offer directly to students’ fingertips, 24/7.”

The cloud-based Campus Quad platform is also a game changer for higher education institutions as it replaces ineffective, one-way communications such as antiquated university list serves and out-of-date websites with a real-time mobile communication platform. Campus Quad collects ancillary data from student interactions and provides universities with their first glimpse into mobile data analytics based on student community engagement. With the mounting pressure for universities to recruit, retain and graduate students, the Campus Quad platform delivers immediate feedback allowing administrators to monitor and assess the effectiveness of a broad range of student services from admissions to school-sponsored events and career placement.

Technology-forward institutions such as Stanford University, Duke University, and Foothill College recognize that offering the Campus Quad engagement experience will have a long-term impact on the success of its students.

“Despite the existence of scores of web sites announcing campus events and activities, students continuously complain that they don't know what's going on,” said Thomas Black, Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs & University Registrar at Stanford University. “Students are using mobile devices, accessing hundreds of thousands of apps, which means they are connected, but are they connected successfully with each other; with what is important, academically or even socially? Because of communication fragmentation, we're experimenting with new platforms with the goal of forming communities that are well informed and actively engaged."

Students have also played an integral role in shaping the Campus Quad feature development and leading the campus rollouts.

“The power of the Campus Quad app is that it allows students to not only be connected with the pulse of the entire campus, but also answers questions and solves problems that students face each day in real-time,” said Duke Student and Campus Quad Student Founder Tre’ Scott. “From creating flyers and centralizing information about campus events and activities to forming a school-wide social network, Campus Quad gives students the freedom and control to connect, share, explore and create opportunities with each other or the entire school. It’s like having command central in the palm of your hand.”
