Elevated Stress Levels Are the “New Norm” for Employees, According to ComPsych StressPulse Report

62 percent have high levels of stress; one-third lose an hour per day in productivity due to stress

CHICAGO--()--Employee stress levels remain elevated according to the latest StressPulseSM report by ComPsych® Corporation. Some 62 percent of employees report having high levels of stress, with extreme fatigue/feeling out of control and 33 percent report having constant but manageable levels of stress. “The percentage of employees in the ‘high’ stress category has remained relatively unchanged in recent years,” said Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, Chairman and CEO of ComPsych. “People continue to be asked to do more work and this primary cause of stress is compounded by other factors such as uncertainty in financial markets and confusion related to health care changes. This is in addition to ongoing work-life stressors.”

Key Findings of StressPulse:

  • 62 percent of employees have high levels of stress, with extreme fatigue/feeling out of control
  • Employees reported the following work priorities:
    • 59 percent of employees see accomplishing basic responsibilities as most important
    • 22 percent see being present as most important
    • Only 19 percent see performance improvement as most important
  • 34 percent lose 1 hour or more per day in productivity due to stress
  • 31 percent miss 3 to 6 days per year due to stress
  • 15 percent miss more than 6 days per year due to stress
