Prime Minister of Israel to Speak at Bloomberg Fuel Choices Summit

Benjamin Netanyahu Will Speak about Israel’s Vision for Transportation and Grant the Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation

TEL AVIV--()--Bloomberg announced today that it will partner with the State of Israel Prime Minister’s Office to host the Bloomberg Fuel Choices Summit in Tel Aviv on November 12 and 13 to discuss the future of transportation and recent innovations that have the potential to change the course of the global dependence on oil.

With oil as a major cause for political and economic instability around the world, and with carbon emissions undermining global efforts to contain rising temperatures, the government of Israel has pledged a bold goal to reduce the use of oil for transportation by 60 percent by 2025. The Prime Minister will deliver an address at the Summit about the country’s vision for eliminating a dependence on oil.

"We are pleased to welcome leaders from around the world to the first annual Fuel Choices Summit which will be devoted to the innovations in fuel choice and energy security," said Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel. "The Summit's participants will be introduced to cutting-edge developments from over 100 companies, start-ups and corporations, that conduct advanced R&D here in Israel."

The two-day Summit, to be held at Habima National Theatre, will bring together policy makers, financiers, business leaders and innovators from around the world for a discussion on new business models, coalitions and policy decisions to reduce oil consumption. Speakers at the Summit will address countries’ plans to implement new transportation models; obstacles to embracing oil alternatives and opportunities for investment; and energy companies’ long view for the alternative fuels industry. They will also debate frontiers in biofuels, synthetic fuels, natural gas and electric car technologies.

“The transportation industry is on the cusp of a transformation with increasing attention being paid to alternative fuels and new technologies,” said Robert Bierman, head of Bloomberg LINK. “Our Summit will explore the factors driving billion-dollar investment decisions around fuel choices and what opportunities lay ahead."

An evening event will be held at the Hilton Tel Aviv to award the 2013 Eric and Sheila Samson Prime Minister's Prize for Innovation in Alternative Fuels for Transportation. The US $1 million prize – the largest prize in the world in the field of alternative fuels – will be awarded to Professor George A. Olah and Professor G.K. Surya Prakash from the University of Southern California, for their work on methanol economy. This presentation marks the inaugural award to encourage global innovation and scientific breakthroughs in the field of alternative transportation fuels.
