Tuscaloosa Preservation Society to Honor Dunkin’ Donuts on October 24th

The Downtown Tuscaloosa restaurant will receive the “Brick and Mortar” award in recognition of its contribution to the revitalization

TUSCALOOSA, Ala.--()--Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods, is proud to be a recipient of the Tuscaloosa Preservation Society’s “Brick and Mortar” award to be presented October 24th. The society’s annual awards reception recognizes local businesses and individuals who have contributed to the preservation and restoration of the city’s historical sites. Twelve winners will be honored at the event, including only four “Brick and Mortar” recipients.

The downtown Tuscaloosa Dunkin’ Donuts is located at 2520 Stillman Boulevard and is housed in the former Greyhound Bus Station. The station operated between 1962 and 2010 and sat vacant until Dunkin’ franchisee, Sam Hakani chose it as the site for the new store which opened in August 2013. The City of Tuscaloosa itself nominated Dunkin’ Donuts for the Brick and Mortar award citing its important contribution to the revitalization of downtown Tuscaloosa since the devastating tornadoes of 2011.

“Dunkin’ Donuts was an obvious shoe-in for the award,” says Katherine Richter, Executive Director for the Tuscaloosa Preservation Society, “The retro look of the old Greyhound Station was preserved in the design of the store, and the store itself brought life back to a vacant building in the heart of downtown Tuscaloosa.”

Dunkin' Donuts is America's favorite all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods, selling more than 1.7 billion cups of hot and iced coffee and espresso-based beverages, and approximately 2.4 billion donuts and MUNCHKINS® donut hole treats combined globally per year. Today, there are more than 10,500 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants worldwide – more than 7,000 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in 36 states in the U.S. plus the District of Columbia, and more than 3,000 international restaurants in 30 additional countries.
