TEMPE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--LifeLock, Inc. (NYSE:LOCK) today announced that Delaware Attorney General Joseph R. "Beau" Biden, III has been awarded its 2013 LifeLock Ultimate™ Award, for his efforts to fight identity theft, improve online safety and educate children about cybersecurity. This award, given in conjunction with the C3 Conference: Cyberethics, Cybersafety and Cybersecurity, recognizes a state or federal government official who has made outstanding contributions to fighting identity theft and improving online safety.
“Close coordination between government, law enforcement, consumers and industry is required to fight identity theft,” said Clarissa Cerda, LifeLock’s Executive Vice President, Chief Legal Officer & Secretary. “Delaware’s Attorney General, 'Beau' Biden, is a great example of a government leader committed to fighting fraud and educating the public. We are proud to honor him with our 2013 LifeLock Ultimate™ Award.”
Biden is a champion for online safety. He has worked with FBI-LEEDA (Law Enforcement Executive Development Association) to educate Delaware police on how they can effectively target identity theft. He has spoken to more than 30,000 schoolchildren about staying safe online and stopping cyberbullying. Additionally, under Biden’s leadership, The Consumer Protection Unit of the Delaware Office of the Attorney General holds “shredding days” throughout the state where Delawareans can safely destroy documents and prevent sensitive personal financial information from falling into the wrong hands.
“We have to stay a step ahead of criminals that are becoming more sophisticated and are always looking for new channels for their crimes,” said Beau Biden, Attorney General for the State of Delaware. “I am honored to receive this recognition, and couldn’t have made this progress without the support of my entire team. Identity theft is a serious issue and can impact anyone. Only by taking proactive steps can we reduce the public’s risk.”
About the LifeLock Ultimate™ Award:
LifeLock Ultimate™ Award candidates are evaluated and then selected by a joint committee of C3 Conference executives and LifeLock executives. Previous winners of this annual award include Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler (2011) and U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (2012). The award is presented at the C3 Conference, a professional development event focusing on Cyberethics, Cybersafety and Cybersecurity. The annual conference informs the educational community about the ethical, legal, safety, and security implications of technology use and illustrates how educators and parents can apply these concepts to their own settings. LifeLock has previously worked with the C3 Conference to develop educator resource guides on identity theft prevention for grades 6-12.
