ASRC Federal Space and Defense Employee Receives NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal

GREENBELT, Md.--()--NASA recently awarded ASRC Federal Space and Defense employee Guy Cordier the Distinguished Public Service Medal—the highest honor the space agency confers on non-government workers. NASA Administrator Charlie Bolden presented the award to Cordier, who was recognized for exceptional service that made a profound impact on NASA mission success.

During his 45-year career at NASA Goddard, Cordier has served in a variety of engineering roles and is credited with making a lasting impact on the success of NASA and its partners through advancing the state of the art in data capture, processing and delivery of science.

“Guy Cordier has made powerful contributions in the development and support of complex data processing systems at NASA Goddard,” said Paul Dillahay, ASRC Federal president and CEO. “We congratulate Guy on this prestigious award and appreciate his dedicated service to NASA and its missions.”

Cordier’s most recent accomplishment is in his current role as the Joint Polar Satellite System command, control and communications system architect. He led a team of systems engineers in redesigning a ground-station-to-science data processing system that uses data rates vastly higher than those currently in use at NASA—completing the prototype of the new interface in just one year. The resulting gains in data transmission speed and reliability will improve timely generation of weather products for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Cordier was honored in ceremonies at NASA headquarters and Goddard Space Flight Center.
