March of Dimes and AFCEA NOVA Announce 2013 Heroines in Technology Finalists

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--The March of Dimes and AFCEA NOVA today announced finalists for the 13th Annual Heroines in Technology® Awards Gala. The awards program will honor the significant contributions of women in the technology industry who exemplify leadership in volunteer community service.

This year’s finalists include women dedicated to ending homelessness and world hunger, encouraging students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, supporting service members and veterans, and numerous other causes.

The finalists will be honored and winners will be announced at the black-tie awards program on Friday, November 8, 2013, at the Hilton McLean Tysons Corner.

Winners will be selected in the following categories:

  • Rising Heroine
  • Individual Heroine
  • Corporate Heroine
  • AFCEA International Government Heroine
  • Lifetime Achievement Heroine

Former “Heroine” recipient and CEO of Transformation Systems, Inc. Marta Wilson shared, “Through my involvement with Heroines in Technology, I have made numerous professional connections and also made many new friends who are like minded in the areas of corporate social responsibility, community outreach and charitable giving. To see AFCEA and the March of Dimes come together to recognize and honor women in the field of technology for their dedication to community service is truly inspiring.”

In addition to the awards presentation, the evening will include dinner, music, dancing and live and silent auctions. Proceeds from the event will support local March of Dimes programs including research, community services, education and advocacy to reduce the occurrence of birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. Since 2001, the event has raised over $1.4 million to support the March of Dimes mission of saving babies.
