DAYTON, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dayton Superior is pleased to announce they will provide a number of product solutions for the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge project in New York. Among the products being supplied to the project is the new-to-market Bar Lock® XL. Bar Lock XL creates a high strength connection for Grade 75 galvanized rebar size 4 through 18.
The new Tappan Zee Bridge, still in the design phase, is being developed to provide the bridge with a 100-year life span. Part of the substructure design requirements call for 375kip rebar connections using size 18, Grade 75 galvanized bar.
“We are extremely proud to be providing engineering and product solution support for this historically significant endeavour,” Jim McRickard, Dayton Superior’s President and CEO stated.
The existing Tappan Zee Bridge which connects South Nyack in Rockland County, NY with Tarrytown in Westchester County in NY is among the longest U.S. bridges. It carries approximately 140,000 vehicles daily. The new Tappan Zee Bridge will be a dual-span twin bridge with 8 total traffic lanes and a bike/pedestrian path. The new 3-mile bridge will be the widest of that length in the world. Construction on the bridge begins this year with the opening target being 2017.
