BROOMFIELD, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spatial Corp., the leading provider of 3D development components for design, manufacturing and engineering applications, today joins Geometric Limited in announcing Geometric DFX, a standalone application for carrying out the DFX validation of product designs. In addition to leveraging the proven modeling capabilities of CGM, Geometric DFX provides data reuse through 3D InterOp from Spatial.
Geometric describes DFX as “Design for X” where X represents various downstream process checks related to design goals such as manufacturability, assembly, quality, serviceability, environment, or reliability. It is essential to incorporate DFX guidelines early in product development to reduce defects, minimize rework, eliminate waste, shorten time to market and save costs. Customary methods involved time consuming and costly manual checks.
Driven by the goal of developing a highly competitive solution for automated DFX verification, Geometric looked to Spatial and CGM. They recognized CGM as a flexible platform which could deliver more than traditional 3D modeling, including reliable data reuse, allowing them to optimize their engineering resources and expertise. As the kernel used in Dassault Systèmes 3DEXPERIENCE platform, delivering industry-focused offerings such as CATIA Mechanical Design, SOLIDWORKS Mechanical Conceptual and SIMULIA Results Explorer, Geometric recognized CGM as a modeler which has proven itself in leading-edge applications.
“Geometric has been providing DFX solutions integrated with various leading CAD platforms. However, there has been a growing need in the market for a single validation platform for customers working in a multi-CAD environment. Geometric DFX offers this platform as a single point solution to the design community,” said Sameer Kondejkar, Sr. Director and Head, Geometry Technology Solutions Business at Geometric. “Taking advantage of the verified technology of CGM and the ability to seamlessly access data, our development teams were able to focus on the core functionality of Geometric DFX, reduce development expenses, and provide higher quality of results.”
“Geometric represents a growing number of companies which are more aggressively pushing limits within their respective industries and are looking beyond traditional modeling components to provide competitive differentiation,” said Jean-Marc Guillard, Chief Executive Officer at Spatial Corp. “Geometric needed a platform for innovation as well as a responsive partner who could adapt to their unique requirements.”
To address the diverse requirements of their markets, Geometric leveraged 3D InterOp from Spatial enabling Geometric DFX to provide support for a wide range of proprietary CAD formats, such as CATIA V5, NX, Creo, Pro/ENGINEER, Solid Edge, Inventor and SolidWorks, as well as open formats, such as STEP and IGES. The various manufacturing processes currently supported include assembly, machining, casting, injection molding, and sheet metal fabrication. Geometric DFX will benefit manufacturing companies in domains such as automotive, consumer durables, aerospace, high-tech, medical equipment, and contract electronics manufacturing.
