TIAA-CREF and MSU Denver to Adopt Bruce Randolph School

Collaboration will provide educational support to school, including supplies, financial education and tutoring programs for students, parents and faculty

DENVER--()--TIAA-CREF, a leading financial services provider, Metropolitan State University of Denver and the Denver Public Schools Foundation today announced a collaboration to provide educational support to more than 450 students, along with parents and faculty members, at Bruce Randolph, a public school for grades 6-12.

Working together, the organizations identified a number of specific needs of the Bruce Randolph community and have developed several programs to assist students, parents and faculty throughout the school year, including:

  • Back-to-School Supplies and Campus Beautification – Today volunteers from TIAA-CREF, MSU Denver and Bruce Randolph will work on projects to improve the campus. In addition, TIAA-CREF will donate $5,000 and new school supplies collected through the company’s Backpacks and Knapsacks School Supply Drive.
  • Tutoring Programs – Starting in October 2013 and running throughout the school year, TIAA-CREF and MSU Denver volunteers will tutor high school students at Bruce Randolph.
  • Job Shadow Event – In February 2014, TIAA-CREF will host a job shadow event at TIAA-CREF’s office in Denver for approximately 50 students to give them an overview of career choices in the financial services industry.
  • Financial Literacy Workshops – In April 2014, to coincide with National Financial Literacy Month, TIAA-CREF employees and MSU Denver faculty will hold workshops on the basics of financial literacy for high school students, parents and Bruce Randolph faculty.

“TIAA-CREF is devoted to education, and we believe it’s our duty to make a positive impact on our community,” said Ray Bellucci, Denver-based senior managing director for institutional client solutions at TIAA-CREF. “We are excited to collaborate with MSU Denver and the Denver Public Schools Foundation to ensure Bruce Randolph students have the tools they need to succeed in school and in the future."

“MSU Denver has a long-standing relationship with Bruce Randolph, and together with TIAA-CREF and the Denver Public Schools Foundation, we are dedicated to transforming lives in our community,” said Mark Potter, associate vice president for academic and civic collaboration at MSU Denver. “We want to show students the value of higher education and remove perceived barriers that may limit future opportunities.”

“This program will not only ensure that our students excel in the classroom, but the job shadowing and financial literacy workshops will help prepare them for life beyond high school,” said Antwan Wilson, assistant superintendent for post-secondary readiness in Denver Public Schools.

As a financial services organization with deep roots in education, TIAA-CREF supports a variety of initiatives to improve school communities, including a similar collaboration with UNC Charlotte and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools to provide educational support for Charlotte’s Governor’s Village schools. TIAA-CREF also works with Junior Achievement to teach financial education in Title 1 schools throughout the country and collaborates with the Council of Graduate Schools and 34 universities to develop financial education programs for college students.
