TEL AVIV, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PointGrab Ltd., the global leader in advanced gesture recognition software solutions has unveiled the industry’s most reliable solution for integration into mass market devices. The new proprietary Hybrid Action Recognition technology sets a new standard and boasts 98 percent gesture recognition accuracy (in optimal conditions) while working with the standard (2D) cameras already embedded in everyday CE devices. PointGrab has built this evolution in technology based on millions of devices worldwide that already include previous versions of the company’s solution including Samsung’s Smart TVs as well Acer and Fujitsu PCs. The PointGrab technology breakthrough enables a more usable and reliable experience for consumers to use natural gestures to interact with their devices. The newest iteration will be available in a number of major manufacturers’ devices launching in the Fall of 2013 in time for the retrial holiday season. A software development kit (SDK) for PointGrab new development will also be available.
The new PointGrab technology better understands users’ intentions and can detect and analyze complex situations of shape and motion, including the ability to accommodate for “unintentional” gestures made by the user, as well as “close and similar” intentional gestures making ubiquitous computing a reality. Based on a new algorithm, the technology enables a unique and smart combination of shape recognition and motion tracking using several processes that enables the machine learning algorithm to better understand what a user is actually trying to do.
“Gesture recognition provides a natural, intuitive and immediate way for people to interact with devices and is becoming a mainstream part of user interface today,” said Haim Perski, CEO of PointGrab. “PointGrab has taken the leading role in setting the industry standard by making sure the experience is reliable and available to the masses, on every day devices with a standard camera.”
Real Mass Market Implications
PointGrab has also invested dramatically in the User Experience as an indispensable part of the solution. The whole system is designed and built to be customizable to users’ needs and behaviors and to create a friendly and effective First Time Experience using Natural User Interface. The system shortens users’ learning curve and makes the experience suitable and personalized.
“We want to enable the average person to use gestures naturally, without any awkward or staccato motions,” said Assaf Gad, VP Product and Marketing. “As an example, if one were to put their finger to their lips in a ‘shhh gesture’ the new sophisticated algorithm can detect and analyze the motion and the total shape of the ‘mute gesture’ and differentiate it from situations like simply scratching the face or smoking a cigarette where other gesture solutions fall.”
PointGrab solution based on this new technology breakthrough will be launched worldwide for the mass consumer market in the next few weeks with leading manufacturers. An SDK for developers is available, enabling 3rd party applications to benefit from the superior gesture experience in the living room space and home environment to Personal Computers, Tablets and on Mobile. PointGrab’s customers (leading manufacturers) will push and offer this SDK to their community of developers in order to create even more exciting new content.
