MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Hampton Hotels, Hilton Worldwide’s global brand of more than 1,900 mid-priced Hampton Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites and Hampton by Hilton hotels, today announced the opening of 27 new hotels between April and June, bringing the total to 49 openings in the first half of 2013. The second quarter marked Hampton’s entry into new global markets including the Netherlands and Romania, as well as a flurry of activity in the Southern region of the United States, with 15 openings there. Hampton expects to add nearly 50 hotels by the end of the year globally.
“Looking at our success mid-year shows that we have our running shoes on and we are certainly prepared to continue the pace through the end of the year,” said Phil Cordell, global head, focused service and Hampton brand management, Hilton Worldwide. “Our ultimate goal is to deliver friendly service and comfortable amenities to travelers across the globe, while providing our franchise owners the tools they need to succeed. As evidenced by our growth this quarter, we are getting closer and closer to spreading our spirit of Hamptonality to travelers near and far from home.”
Openings in the second quarter of 2013 included 10 Hampton Inn, 13 Hampton Inn & Suites and four Hampton by Hilton hotels totaling 2,925 guestrooms. European expansion continues to be a focus and the Hampton by Hilton brand debuted in both Romania and the Netherlands in Q2. The 109-room Hampton by Hilton Cluj-Napoca opened in June in the heart of Romania. The first Hampton in this country is centrally located in Cluj-Napoca, the popular tourism destination made famous by Bram Stoker's Count Dracula. Additionally, two Hampton by Hilton hotels opened in the Netherlands, including the 181-room Hampton by Hilton Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and the 251-room Hampton by Hilton Amsterdam Arena Boulevard. Hampton also added two airport hotels abroad with the additions of the 120-room Hampton by Hilton Exeter Airport in the UK and the 135-room Hampton Inn by Hilton Winnipeg/Airport in Canada.
Growth for Hampton Hotels was not only outside of the Americas this quarter, as 22 domestic hotels opened their doors across 14 states and Washington, DC. This included significant expansion across the Southern region of the United States, just in time to welcome summer vacation travelers. In addition, Hampton Hotels partnered with Homewood Suites by Hilton to open the first dual-branded hotel in downtown Denver. The Hampton Inn & Suites Denver Downtown-Convention Center opened in April and as an adaptive reuse project, was formerly an Excel Energy office building. The property caters to business and leisure travelers alike and is centrally located nearby attractions, including the Colorado Convention Center and the 16th Street Mall.
