Hooters Challenges Americans to Eat One Million Wings on National Chicken Wing Day with All-You-Can-Eat Deal

ATLANTA--()--Hooters of America, LLC, today issued a challenge to chicken wing enthusiasts across the nation: Unite on Monday, July 29 to collectively consume one million wings on National Chicken Wing Day. In honor of the national holiday, Hooters locations across the country will offer a $12.99 all-you-can-eat wing deal to help rally fans around one unifying goal.

Each Hooters guest will receive a fill-in-the-blank sticker to proudly boast the number of wings they “put down” in one sitting. Guests are invited to share their personal wing count by posting photos on Twitter and Instagram with the hashtag #StepIntoAwesome. The most awesome Hooters National Chicken Wing Day moments will be featured on www.stepintoawesome.com. The official wing tally will be updated every hour on the Hooters Facebook page.

The holiday will follow the battle of professional eaters who will compete in the Hooters World Wing-Eating Championship event on Thursday, July 25 at 7 p.m. The saucy showdown will culminate where it all began at the Original Hooters of Clearwater, Fla. The world’s top professionally ranked eaters will unite in a grueling 10-minute, all-you-can-eat contest of Hooters world famous chicken wings to win cash prizes and the coveted title of 2013 Hooters Worldwide Wing-Eating Champion.

The stakes are higher than ever before as reigning wing-eating champ Joey “Jaws” Chestnut will defend his title against two female competitive eating sensations: Miki Sudo and Michelle Lesco; both of which bested Chestnut in a rib-eating contest in Chicago, Ill., earlier this year.

The Hooters World Wing-Eating Championship tour kicked off in Panama City, Fla., on March 30 with a circuit of wing-eating qualifier events throughout the U.S., including Augusta, Ga., during the Masters Golf Tournament on April 5 with Major League Eater Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas. This is only the second time the chicken wing eating discipline has been part of a championship circuit to identify and crown an official world champion.
