• As of mid-2013, Fon has close to 12 million hotspots

MADRID--()--Fon, the global WiFi network, has announced that SFR, Fon’s first international telco partner, is now enabling free access for its broadband customers to Fon’s international hotspot network.

SFR’s ADSL and Fiber customers will see their benefits expanded and as Fon members, will enjoy free international WiFi access to close to 12 million Fon hotspots around the world. Access to the Fon network is offered exclusively by SFR in France, extending abroad the benefit of the SFR WiFi service. Fon's international members will enjoy superb WiFi coverage in France through millions of SFR WiFi Hotspots identified by the “SFR WiFi Fon” signal.

Martin Varsavsky, CEO, Fon, said:

“SFR was Fon’s first telco Partner. We are happy that SFR broadband customers now get automatic free access to the Fon network. Our experience with the world’s leading telcos has proven that offering access to Fon to customers is one of the best ways to create value through WiFi. We are convinced SFR subscribers will appreciate free WiFi roaming around the globe, from London, Amsterdam or Berlin to Rio de Janeiro, Moscow or Tokyo"

With close to 12 million hotspots, mostly deployed with international telcos, Fon is the world’s largest WiFi network. Fon members share the unused capacity of their broadband connection with other Fon members and receive free access to almost 12 million hotspots in exchange. So far this year, Fon has announced three new partnerships including landmark operators KPN (Netherlands), Hrvatski Telekom (Croatia) and Deutsche Telekom (Germany). More partnerships are expected to be announced in 2013.
