NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI) applauded Switzerland’s Hinduja Bank for ending its business in Iran.
On Wednesday, UANI launched its Switzerland Campaign, highlighting the extensive Iran business activities of Swiss firms, and the failure of the Swiss government to join the international community in implementing robust sanctions against the Iranian regime.
This week, Hinduja Bank contacted UANI, and stated that it “has stopped engaging in any transactions connected in any manner with Iran or with any Iranian domiciled persons, entities or vessels.”
UANI applauds Hinduja for this responsible decision and will update its campaign accordingly.
Said UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace:
We applaud Hinduja for pulling out of Iran, and for informing us of its current status. No reputable bank, business, or person should be engaging in business with Iran at this time. We call on other Swiss entities to follow Hinduja’s lead, and pull out of Iran. Those that remain in Iran are counteracting EU and U.S. sanctions, and are providing the Iranian regime with an economic lifeline to withstand international pressure on its illicit nuclear program.
In a recent RealClearWorld.com Op-Ed, “Time for Switzerland to End Its Irresponsible Business With Iran,” which was reported by leading Swiss newspaper Tages-Anzeiger, UANI CEO, Ambassador Mark D. Wallace called on Switzerland “to start behaving like a responsible member of the international community and enact the same measures that have been adopted by its European neighbors and international allies.”
