Ideomed CEO Keith Brophy to Testify Before Congress

Brophy joins mobile health CEOs in rare “demo day” to illustrate how technology can help reduce healthcare costs and improve care for patients with chronic diseases

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. & WASHINGTON--()--Today, Ideomed, an independent corporation launched by Spectrum Health and an award winning provider of innovative web and mobile based engagement solutions for the management of chronic illness, announced its Chief Executive Officer, Keith Brophy, will testify before Congress with several healthcare-industry entrepreneurs this morning, Thursday, June 27.

Mr. Brophy is part of a demo day before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Small Business, Subcommittee on Health and Technology. The demo day, themed “Mobile Medical App Entrepreneurs: Changing the Face of Health Care” will explore how smartphone technology is enabling a new generation of healthcare entrepreneurs to reduce healthcare costs and improve care for patients with chronic diseases. In addition to testifying in his official capacity as CEO of Ideomed, Mr. Brophy is representing the Association for Competitive Technology (ACT), a trade association that supports mobile app developers worldwide to navigate the laws and government regulations associated with app development. Brophy and a team of entrepreneurs will demonstrate apps that enhance patient engagement, connect patients to their physicians in real time, and allow for monitoring of care regimens and disease triggers over an extended period.

For the first time, legislators who serve on the subcommittee, including Chris Collins (R-NY), Janice Hahn (D-CA), and other members of Congress will see live demonstrations of mobile health technology and hear how these tools are improving patient care. The demo day is a rare event for Congress, as the vast majority of congressional testimonies involve pleas, words and arguments. During Thursday’s event, Congress will see firsthand how these mobile health solutions work and hear of patient success stories.

Keith Brophy, chief executive officer of Ideomed, states, “Ideomed started with the idea that patient engagement is the key to managing chronic disease and mobile health technology offers an ideal platform for engaging people in new and powerful ways that never existed before. At a time when chronic diseases comprise an estimated 75 percent of our nation’s healthcare spending, our Abriiz® platform is helping asthma patients reduce emergency room visits and unscheduled doctors’ office visits and live in control of their asthma. We are seeing strong engagement from patients and great results for healthcare payers, and are now extending the platform to other costly chronic diseases as well as palliative care. We look forward to sharing our excitement with the House Subcommittee on Health and Technology.”

The hearing will be held in Room 2360 of the Rayburn House Office Building on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 10:00 AM eastern time. A live webcast of the hearing will also be available.
