CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG) hosted its 3rd ponytail donation event yesterday afternoon in support of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. P&G employees, their family and friends and the local community gathered in the Tower Gardens at the P&G General Offices to donate more than 400 ponytails to benefit the cause, which creates free real-hair wigs for women undergoing cancer treatments.
Several guests of honor were present to support those who participated, including one of WCPO’s ‘Good Morning Tri-State’ news anchors, Kathrine Nero, who shared her personal story. P&G employee, Julie Noe, also shared a special moment with colleagues and friends as she also shared her journey, and cut her six-year old daughter Bella’s ponytail, which was donated to the program. Hair styling was provided by over 30 local hair stylists who volunteered their time to help cut and style the hair that was donated. Walter Geiger, General Manager and Vice President of North American Hair Care at Procter & Gamble, was in attendance to support the program and provided the opening remarks.
“P&G has a longstanding tradition of giving back to the community, to touch and improve lives of people,” said Geiger. “In particular, the goal of the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program is to truly make a difference, and is a wonderful example of how we bring the company’s purpose to life. We also understand the unbelievable role hair plays in a woman’s life and how it provides self-confidence and maintains one’s self-esteem; therefore, we decided to create a program that provides free real-hair wigs to women undergoing cancer treatments. I believe our philanthropic efforts help to improve lives, and allow us to come together and make a difference.”
The event once again kicked-off the countdown to the 2nd “National Donate Your Hair Day” taking place on September 7, 2013, benefiting the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. Pantene and Seventeen magazine are partnering again to continue this annual day of giving where people nationwide are encouraged to cut and donate their hair.
Created in 2006, Pantene Beautiful Lengths inspires people to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to create free, real-hair wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatments. To date, Pantene Beautiful Lengths has received nearly 500,000 hair donations from generous men, women, and children. The American Cancer Society distributes the wigs through their nationwide network of wig banks at no cost. Since the start of the program, 28,000 real-hair wigs have been provided to female cancer patients.
The requirements to donate hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths are:
1. Each hair donation must be at least 8 inches long.
2. Hair may be colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes. It cannot be bleached, permanently colored or chemically treated.
3. Gray hair is difficult to use in the wig-making process, so hair may not be more than 5% gray at the time of donation.
