QUINCY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Granite Telecommunications, LLC, a provider of telecom, data, networking and other communications and alarm services, will host its 10th annual Granite Day on Saturday, June 8, a free, family fun event, in support of the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Granite has already raised more than $1 million for Dana Farber in prior years and will raise an additional $450,000 this year alone.
In recognition of Granite’s commitment to Dana Farber and other local charities, Quincy Mayor Thomas Koch will proclaim June 8, 2013, “Granite Day” in the city. This is just the latest recognition of Granite’s charitable efforts. In 2012, the Boston Business Journal placed Granite on its list of the most charitable organizations in Massachusetts. In addition to its donations to Dana Farber, Granite has given $640,000 to 204 different organizations over the past five years.
“Granite Day is an annual celebration giving back to our local community with a spotlight on the outstanding work being done at Dana Farber,” said Rob Hale, Chief Executive Officer at Granite. “We’re really proud of our employees and community coming together every year to make significant contributions and raise awareness for a local organization that has personally touched so many of us.”
The event, which is expected to attract 3,000 people, will feature food and raffle prizes donated by 18 local restaurants, along with kid-friendly activities, entertainment and rides. Granite Day is held in the company’s two parking lots at 100 and 150 Newport Avenue Extension in Quincy.
Granite Day will also feature a pair of area celebrities. Boston Celtics Hall of Famer Dave Cowens will be on hand to sign autographs, as will Paralympic Gold Medalist Swimmer Victoria Arlen, who took gold in the Women’s 100 meter freestyle and silver medals in the 400 meter freestyle, 4x100 meter freestyle relay and 50 meter freestyle at the Paralympic Games in London last year.
Granite Day opens to the public from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. There is no charge for admission; food, rides and games are all free. For more information on Granite Day or to donate to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, please visit http://www.granitenet.com/.
