BOISE, Idaho--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Carrington College® Boise will host a free family resource fair for children’s mental health with School Social Workers of Idaho (SSWI) on Friday, May 10 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The event will feature 25 local providers and a poetry therapy workshop held by therapist Sue Reuling Furness, creator of The Write Path.
“Children with mental illness lack access to effective interventions and their families often feel increasingly isolated from their communities,” said Liza Long, student services consultant at Carrington College Boise. “As involved community members at the forefront of health care careers, we want to support those affected by mental illness so that they can live happy and productive lives.”
The providers’ resources include clinical counseling, developmental therapy, habilitative support and interventions, service coordination, sibling and parent support groups and much more. Each participating provider will have a table set- up at the event with representatives to personally speak with families as they seek out more information.
The resource fair, which will also display the Idaho Federation of Families’ (IFF) poster contest entries, is one of many events taking place during Idaho Children’s Mental Health Week, May 5-11. Another notable event includes a statewide conference at the Westgate offices of the Department of Health and Welfare on May 7 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Long will discuss her essay titled “I Am Adam Lanza’s Mother,” which led to a book deal offer from Hudson Street Press.
