HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The ExxonMobil Houston campus project has achieved more than seven million work hours without any injuries requiring employees or contractors to miss work.
“This milestone is the result of work by a team that is highly focused and pays attention to personal and team safety,” said Mark Tressler, execution manager for the ExxonMobil campus project team. “We want everyone on the site to work safe, so that they can go home safe.”
The team’s safety record is especially impressive considering the fast pace of campus construction and the large scope of work. Nearly 20 buildings are now in various phases of construction.
Gilbane Building Company and Harvey Builders formed a joint venture, Gilbane-Harvey, to act as the general contractor for the project. The companies were selected, in part, based on their previous safety records and experience.
The Houston campus project is one of the largest commercial construction projects in the nation. Approximately 3,000 workers are on-site every day. The injury incidence rate is one-sixth of the industry average for commercial construction projects.
The project has invested in safety training for thousands of workers in the Houston area construction industry.
The campus is located on a 385-acre wooded site on ExxonMobil-owned land near the intersection of I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road. It will accommodate approximately 10,000 employees and is being constructed to high standards of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. Construction began in 2011.
ExxonMobil employees will move to the campus in phases as the buildings are constructed, beginning in early 2014. Full occupancy for employees is expected in 2015.
