BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--QPID™ Inc., an innovative provider of health record acceleration and intelligence solutions, today announced that it has added two senior managers with Gary Zakon, VP of Engineering and Caroline Smyth, VP of Sales. The hires come on the heels of a recently closed $4 million investment round for the company from Matrix Partners, Cardinal Partners, Partners Innovation Fund, and Massachusetts General Physician Organization (MGPO).
“I’ve built a number of excellent management teams in my career, and I’ve never been more excited about the breadth of intelligence assimilated in a company as I am regarding the one we’re building at QPID,” said Michael J. Doyle, CEO of QPID. “The expansive technical wherewithal and health care insights ingrained across our management team are exactly what the health care industry needs, and Gary and Caroline are perfect fits for our aggressive initiative to improve many facets of health care, including patient outcomes and safety, meaningful use and accountable care.”
Gary Zakon brings extensive technical experience as a CTO and VP of Engineering in numerous software companies including OpenPages and Novera Software, as well as deep database intelligence from stints at Mercator Software and Sybase. He will focus on product development and technical hiring to support QPID’s commercial rollout, following its four years of R&D in the Partners Health Care System - most notably at Massachusetts General and Brigham & Women’s Hospitals. Zakon’s experience in building technical teams will help QPID accelerate growth, complete new client integrations and expand its existing 20 applications to address additional specific clinical needs across health care institutions nationwide. Zakon holds his MS in Information Systems from Northeastern University and a BS in Biology from MIT.
Caroline Smyth will lead and build the QPID sales team in its endeavors to improve health care clinicians’ experiences, workflow and ROI from their existing EHR implementations. Smyth is intimately familiar with the challenges that accompany EHR use in the health care industry, as a former Business Development Executive from Phillips Visicu, and with extensive sales positions at Cerner Corporation, Bridge Medical, Premier Healthcare Alliance, GHX and McKesson. She also held various positions as a Registered Nurse (RN) and Critical Care RN (CCRN) within the UK National Health Service. Smyth holds an Executive MBA from Georgia State University and studied Critical Care Nursing at Thames College of Health Care Studies.
