FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Southwest Ranches issued a “Notice of Recommended Award” on April 29, endorsing Sun Bergeron to receive the Town’s sole contract for their municipal solid waste needs. Notable in the contract is the considerably higher price Sun Bergeron is paying the city for recyclables than was offered by Waste Management. The contract will be finalized on May 15.
Further evidence of the benefits of competition for government contracts, Sun Bergeron’s bid opens the door to cities across the county to piggyback on the Southwest Ranches contract and receive a more favorable price on their recyclable commodities.
Among the cities that could take advantage of better recyclable pricing and see significant benefit to its budget is cash-strapped Fort Lauderdale. Commissioners there will be considering an offer from Waste Management for recyclables that pays the city a substantially lower price than is currently on the table through piggybacking with the Southwest Ranches contract.
“Open and honest competition, the foundation on which America was built, has enduring benefits which the citizens of Broward County so rightly deserve,” said Ron Bergeron Sr., President of Sun Bergeron.
The decision in Southwest Ranches is another step in the ongoing efforts to bring competition to the marketplace in Broward County and end the monopolistic pricing practices that Broward residents have endured for the past 25 years.
