Deceased U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle’s National Foundation Finds Rebirth in a Rebrand, Reason for a Cause

DALLAS--()--In February, the nation paid its respects to one of its greatest heroes when U.S. Navy SEAL Team 3 Chief Chris Kyle was killed. Today, his only national foundation, formerly known as FITCO Cares Foundation, has announced its rebrand and an important Board of Directors appointment. Effective immediately, the foundation will be known as Heroes Project and welcomes its newest board member, Jeff Kyle, U.S. Marine who served with Force Recon and younger brother of Chris Kyle.

“When Chris approached our chairman Jason Kos about donating health equipment, Chris said that he ‘slipped into a black hole’ upon his return from deployment, and fitness was the rope he used to climb out,” said Travis Cox, director of Heroes Project. “He believed that this charitable organization needed to become a ‘heroes project’ – something dedicated to helping combat veterans fight post traumatic stress disorder in many ways, including physical fitness. Everything we do now is in Chris Kyle’s honor.”

Kos, also CEO of FITCO, a Dallas-based national fitness equipment manufacturer, worked closely with Kyle to establish the now dubbed Heroes Project. Cox, who also served with Chris’ brother Jeff as a U.S.M.C. recon/sniper in Iraq, continued that charge from Kyle to develop what the foundation does today, including small-group support, personal training and counsel, individualized programs and its specialty, providing in-home fitness equipment free to combat veterans with disabilities, Gold Star families or those suffering with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

“Having Jeff on our board is very meaningful to me, our staff and the combat veterans we serve on a daily basis,” said Cox. “The Heroes Project is the only foundation that is directly connected to the Kyle family. Our goal is to broaden our mission and further our reach to help as many men and women living with PTSD as possible. We needed their service. They need ours now.”

The Heroes Project is recognized as a 501(c)3 by the Internal Revenue Service, and all donations are tax deductible. For more information about Heroes Project, its offerings to combat veterans or how to nominate a hero for fitness equipment, visit www.HeroesProject.org.

About Heroes Project

The Heroes Project was co-founded in 2011 by U.S. Navy Seal Team Chief 3 Chris Kyle, who is widely considered the most lethal sniper in U.S. military combat history. Under Kyle’s watch, this foundation was established to serve the needs of those who have served our country and preserved our freedoms but may have returned home still fighting another fight with post traumatic stress disorder. Through personal support, family outreach and experiential therapy, Heroes Project strives to help each combat veteran reach physical and emotional therapy goals.
