AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Wenzel Spine, Inc., a medical device company focused on providing minimally invasive, stand-alone alternatives to traditional spinal fusion, today announced the launch of the VariLift-C® Stand-Alone Zero-Profile Expandable Cervical Interbody Fusion Device.
In January 2013, Wenzel Spine received clearance from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to market VariLift-C® as an interbody fusion device for stand-alone use. VariLift-C® is indicated to be implanted as a single device or bilaterally via an anterior approach which may be implanted without supplemental fixation.
VariLift-C® Stand-Alone Expandable Interbody Fusion System
Wenzel Spine initially made VariLift-C® available to 5 clinical sites within the US in a controlled release. Surgeon feedback is highly encouraging as they identified that VariLift-C® provides a streamlined ACDF procedure that does not require the use of supplemental fixation.
“VariLift-C is an exciting option for spine surgeons performing cervical fusion surgery as it simplifies ACDF procedures by expanding in situ once it’s properly positioned, without the need for anterior plating,” says Dr. Andy J. Redmond, M.D., Neurosurgeon at the Precision Spine Care in Tyler, TX. “The ease and simplicity of VariLift-C make it an ideal technology for ACDF procedures, particularly in use with adjacent segment disease cases as it allows for the treatment of adjacent levels without the need to remove and replace previous constructs.”
Chad Neely, Chief Executive Officer of Wenzel Spine, said, “We are excited to launch the system commercially in the US. VariLift-C is the only expandable cervical IBFD that provides surgeons with a true stand-alone, zero profile technology for use in ACDF cases. VariLift-C also expands options for surgeons to migrate appropriate cases to ambulatory care settings.” Mr. Neely added, “Proven stand-alone solutions like VariLift-C that don’t require supplemental fixation are essential for reducing healthcare costs and improving clinical outcomes for today’s surgeons and patients.”
VariLift-C® is now commercially available in the US and Europe.
Also commercially available in the US and Europe for stand-alone expandable lumbar interbody fusions is VariLift-L®. This device provides surgeons a zero-profile, stand-alone expandable interbody fusion solution for minimally invasive PLIF and TLIF procedures.
