“What is so unique about CareerBliss is that we can evaluate not only what jobs are making a comeback, but also what trends are impacting overall happiness in the workplace,” says Heidi Golledge, CEO and co-founder of CareerBliss.
A new trend this year is the presence of real estate and construction jobs within the CareerBliss happiest jobs list.
“Real estate agents have definitely weathered quite a financial storm over the past few years,” says Golledge, “but right now, rates are between 2 to 3 percent and inventory is low making it a real estate agent’s dream as new homes hit the market and are getting multiple offers in the first week. Realtors say that the way they work, and the rewards they are seeing with a growing market has helped boost overall happiness for those in this career.”
Also on the CareerBliss Happiest Jobs list are construction managers and construction superintendents.
“We know that the improving economy has an impact on the responses from people in the construction industry, but it is important to understand that what drives happiness for these types of jobs relates to one’s relationship with co-workers and the way one works each and every day,” says Golledge.
Foremost among unhappiest jobs in America are attorneys.
“It was clear from CareerBliss data that people in this position felt most unhappy with their company culture,” says Golledge. “ In many cases, law firms are conducted in a structured environment that is heavily centered on billable hours. It may take several years for an attorney to rise to the rank of partner. People in this position rated the way they work and the rewards they receive lower than any other industry.”
Methodology:
CareerBliss data evaluates the key factors that affect work happiness including: work-life balance, one’s relationship with his/her boss and co-workers, work environment, job resources, compensation, growth opportunities, company culture, company reputation, daily tasks and job control over work performed on a daily basis. The data accounts for how an employee values each factor. Each review is given an average score indicating where the company places between one and five. The following data was compiled from more than 65 thousand independent company reviews from 2011-2012. A minimum of 25 reviews per job title was required for this data.
