Kaazing Global Study Finds Real-Time Web & Mobile Communication a Priority for 2013

Security is top concern (67.6%) and benefit (58%) to global enterprises surveyed

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--Kaazing, pioneers of HTML5 WebSocket and the leading web and mobile communication platform for live data delivery, today announced the findings of its annual Live Web and Mobile Communication research study. The survey, which was conducted in March 2013 with nearly 300 global IT professionals and developers worldwide, found that nearly nine out of ten (86%) respondents consider real-time web and data communication to be a priority for them in 2013, with 81% saying they will apply that priority to their mobile strategy.

Within the next 12 months respondents plan to enable two-way, real-time web applications, ranked as follows:

  1. Monitoring 33.8%
  2. Push notifications 32.8%
  3. Collaboration – 30.4%
  4. eCommerce – 29.7%
  5. Live chat – 29.1%
  6. Extending enterprise applications to web – 25.7%
  7. Remote employee solutions – 23.6%

Countries outside of the U.S. also ranked online gaming and real-time voting as top applications.

The top global benefits of this trend were cited as security (58%), speed (53%) and reliability (51%). While enterprises globally view security as the top benefit, it has also been listed as the top concern (67.6%), followed by integration with existing systems (43%). Countries outside of the U.S. ranked browser support (55%) and speed/latency (52%) as top concerns, second and third to security.

Even as they cite concerns, the research shows that developers worldwide are willing to invest significant portions of their budget to realize the benefits. 78% of all respondents report allocating some portion of their 2013 budget to real-time web and data communication platforms, and of those, 33% plan to assign 10%-20% of their total 2013 IT budget.

Native ObjectiveC (iOS) (49.5%), HTML5 Hybrid (48.8%) and Android (50.9%) were the top three mobile platforms, showing no statistically significant differences on a global level, and 52% of global respondents will deploy their overall real-time web communication platform on-premise, with 42% planning to deploy cloud/PAAS based platforms.

“It is clear that across the globe and industry-wide, enterprises recognize the importance of delivering instant, two-way communication securely and reliably to their employees, customers and partners anytime and anywhere through the web and mobile devices,” said John Donnelly III, Executive Vice President, Kaazing. “These results demonstrate that not only has real-time data communication become the standard expectation, but that the industry worldwide is gearing up in 2013 to take advantage of platforms that can easily and cost-effectively integrate into existing architectures. As founders and pioneers of the HTML5 WebSocket standard and the leading standards-based web and mobile Communication platform, Kaazing is dedicated to providing this modern architecture for the enterprise.”
