ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rare, the conservative social content hub, today announced Brett M. Decker as editor-in-chief. He will lead the digital publication from Washington, D.C. Rare will launch on April 15, 2013 at the Newseum.
“Leaders on the right need to come together and hash out what the essence of the conservative movement is now, and how it can rebuild itself into a majority coalition again,” said Decker. “Rare will provide the platform for that debate. I couldn’t be more excited to take the helm at Rare, and help Cox Media Group reach more of America with its first national news product.”
Ambassador John R. Bolton, former U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Senior Fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, said, “Brett M. Decker is a widely respected journalist because he's willing to say and publish the hard truths others avoid. That quality in politics is very rare. There's no one better to spearhead a publication with that name at a time when conservatism needs more straight talk.”
Political activist and legendary rock star Ted Nugent said, “Brett M. Decker is not only sharp as hell when it comes to the gory details of big-game and varmint politics, he's a badass reporter and editor. Brett will guarantee the red meat is delivered how real conservatives like it – rare.”
Decker previously was editorial page editor of the Washington Times, an editorial page writer and editor for the Wall Street Journal, Senior Vice President of the Export- Import Bank, Senior Vice President of Pentagon Federal Credit Union, speechwriter to then-House Majority Whip (later Majority Leader) Tom DeLay and reporter and television producer for the legendary Robert D. Novak.
Former Governor of the Hong Kong Foreign Correspondents' Club, an adjunct professor of government at Johns Hopkins University and a media fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution, Decker holds master's degrees in national security and strategic studies from the U.S. Naval War College and in government from Johns Hopkins and is a graduate of Albion College.
Decker is a member of the national advisory boards of the PenFed Foundation and the Gerald R. Ford Institute. His first book, Global Filipino, was published in 2008; his second book, Bowing to Beijing, was published by Regnery in 2011.
