NSTA’s New Release for Curious Young Learners, What Makes Different Sounds?

ARLINGTON, Va.--()--The new NSTA Kids book for children in grades K-6, What Makes Different Sounds?, follows twins Jane and Jim on their walk home from school as they explore interesting and sometimes startling sounds. Young readers are introduced to the roles vibration, pitch, and volume play in the sounds they hear on the street—from a fire engine’s siren to a jack hammer to the wind in the trees. Part of the “I Wonder Why” series and illustrated by Susan Dolesch, What Makes Different Sounds? has been vetted by science experts for correctness, correlates to criteria set forth by national science standards, and includes a Parent/Teacher Handbook with science activities to guide discussion.

NSTA Kids, an exciting new division of NSTA Press, is intended to ignite the curiosity of young learners in science while encouraging them to become avid readers.
