CERAWeek 2013

HOUSTON--()--AlertEnterprise CEO Jasvir Gill, was invited to present during the Energy Innovation Pioneer’s session at CERA Week 2013, March 3-7, 2013. IHS CERA Week is widely recognized as the “Davos” of the Energy Industry. Leading Energy Industry CEOs and other senior executives flock to this event to listen to the best and the brightest address business and industry issues.

Mr. Gill’s remarks addressed one of the most serious issues to face the Energy Industry – Critical Infrastructure Protection. According to Gill, “Billions of dollars are being spent on security but the breaches still continue”. The problem is so stark that the discussion on how to solve this has become a permanent fixture in the board room. He goes on to add, “The (US) Department of Homeland Security has reported that energy companies comprised of 43% of all cyber incidents during FY2012.”

AlertEnterprise monitors and informs companies about such activity as someone accessing a site or system in a time or place that is unusual. "Utilities have substations in the middle of nowhere," Gill said, "As we all know nobody goes to a substation for fun."

Delivering Corporate and Critical Infrastructure Protection has become a more complicated proposition. Attackers are not relying on just one attack vector. They are relying on the fact that organizations are conditioned to respond to attacks in silos of IT Security, Corporate (Physical) Security and Plant Operations. Piecemeal solutions addressing safety and security threats from segregated IT, Physical and OT silos are fragmented measures leaving the enterprise fundamentally exposed.

AlertEnterprise Inc., the company founded by Mr. Gill takes on these problems head-on. Prior to AlertEnterprise, Mr. Gill had founded Virsa Systems, a software company focused on prevention of financial fraud and theft. He sold his previous company to software giant SAP in a deal valued at over $400 Million. Mr. Gill has continued his streak of success with a new generation of proven security solutions to correlate cybersecurity with physical access, track privileged user activity, and aggregate cybersecurity information from security automation tools. High profile operators and asset owners are using these techniques to tackle the complete spectrum of corporate and infrastructure security for the true prevention of theft, fraud, insider threat, sabotage and acts of terrorism while meeting regulatory compliance requirements.
