GlobalMed Telemedicine Camera Receives Canadian Certification

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--()--CSA Group, a nonprofit, membership-based association that tests and certifies products around the world, has certified the TotalExam™HD examination camera made by GlobalMed®, the worldwide leader in the new generation of healthcare delivery. The action allows distributors to import the small, easy-to-hold video camera for sale to healthcare facilities throughout Canada. The camera is also registered with the FDA as a Class I device for sale in the United States.

The TotalExam™HD is perfect for use in dermatology, allowing physicians to capture close-up images of the skin that aid in diagnosing various skin diseases, such as eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and even cancer. Watch a video of the camera in use here.

Since 2005, the use of telehealth in Canada has increased by 35 percent annually. The federal government's investment in the Canada Health Infoway included $108 million for telehealth projects to be cost-shared with provinces and territories. In 2010, the latest year reporting, close to 1,200 communities across Canada were using more than 5,700 telehealth sites, accounting for nearly 260,000 telemedicine encounters.

“We are thrilled to receive certification of our TotalExam™HD camera for distribution in Canada. The use of telemedicine to improve healthcare is growing around the world, and this certification will enable practitioners there to better meet the healthcare needs of their patients,” stated Joel E. Barthelemy, GlobalMed’s Founder and Managing Director.

Weighing in at just four ounces, the TotalExam™HD is the first true HD video examination camera for use in telemedicine. The sleek, modern look and small size is designed with the comfort of the user in mind. It is faster and easier to acquire the best freeze-frame images because the camera’s count back frame analysis automatically selects the clearest picture among 17 frames.

Still images obtained from the camera’s superior resolution are six times the clarity of standard definition cameras, making features crystal clear even when enlarged. The LED light carousel uses as little as 8 watts of power compared to fluorescent lighting required by other cameras that consume 40 watts.
