DUBLIN--()--OmniPay, a First Data company and global payments processor, today announced that it has won a prestigious award at the 2013 Merchant Payments Ecosystem (MPE) gala awards in Berlin.

OmniPay won the 2013 ‘Information’ award which goes to the company which has developed and launched the most innovative new information exchange system in the payments industry. OmniPay won the award based on its new Payments Aggregation Acquiring Service (PAAS) which is seen as a pioneering new service for both OmniPay and the payments acceptance industry.

OmniPay PAAS was developed to allow its acquiring clients to broaden the type and number of merchants eligible to receive card payments and to standardise payment aggregation business models. OmniPay’s model offers a more cost-effective solution suited to the needs of the smaller merchant and enables them to offer their customers a wider choice of payment options. Cardholders are able to enjoy the advantages of card payment with merchants who traditionally would not have been able to accept this form of payment.

OmniPay supports 34 acquiring banks and 5.4 million merchants in 73 countries and 149 currencies. It currently processes 1.2 billion transactions annually.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Hubert O’Donoghue, CEO and co-founder of OmniPay, said, “Winning this year’s ‘Information’ award further cements OmniPay’s position as one of the world’s most innovative payments processing companies. It’s fantastic to receive this recognition from some of the industry’s most respected figures. We firmly believe that PAAS is a significant advancement for both OmniPay and the payments acceptance industry. The substantial adoption of OmniPay PAAS by our clients is testimony to the appeal of this exciting new service.”

The award win follows within weeks of OmniPay’s announcement that it is creating 30 new jobs at its headquarters in Clonskeagh, Dublin, bringing its total workforce to almost 200 people. First Data is also funding investment to develop and extend its global payments processing platform.
