BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Berkshire Partners LLC, the Boston-based investment firm, announced today that Michael A. Miles, Jr. will join the firm as an Advisory Director. Mr. Miles will work with Berkshire to source new investment ideas and serve as an operating advisor to portfolio companies.

Mr. Miles comes to Berkshire from Staples, Inc. (NASDAQ: SPLS), the $25 billion office products supplier, where he has been President since 2006 and Chief Operating Officer since 2003. Prior to Staples, Mr. Miles was with PepsiCo and YUM Brands for ten years, ultimately as Chief Operating Officer of Pizza Hut. He began his career at Bain and Company, the Boston-based management consulting firm.
Mr. Miles serves on the Board of Directors for Western Union, Inc. (NYSE: WU), where he is a member of the Audit and Corporate Governance Committees. He graduated from Yale University and earned his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
