PLANO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Rug Doctor, (http://rugdoctor.com/), the manufacturer of the most convenient, powerful do-it-yourself hot water extraction carpet cleaning machines and products, today announced the results of its recent Carpet Cleaning Conundrum survey, which focuses on the cleaning habits, and judgments, of U.S. consumers.
Rug Doctor partnered with Edelman Berland to conduct the study, which surveyed regular cleaning routines of more than 1,000 U.S. consumers.
The survey found that while only 13 percent of Americans feel as though they clean carpet as frequently as they should, 37 percent reported they judge others based on the cleanliness of their carpet – showing that those who worry about what others think of their carpet (41 percent) are not so paranoid after all.
“The Rug Doctor Carpet Cleaning Conundrum data reveals 84 percent of Americans know that having clean carpet is a necessity to having a clean home,” said Lauren McCann, rental brand manager and spokesperson for Rug Doctor. “But the data also shows only 55 percent of U.S. consumers clean carpet as frequently as the EPA suggests – every six months – which is where we have our conundrum. Consumers know clean carpet is important, but they aren’t necessarily doing anything about it.”
Additional data from the Carpet Cleaning Conundrum survey revealed:
- 95 percent of U.S. consumers did not know that one square foot of carpet can hold one pound of dirt
- 54 percent of U.S. consumers would rather clean carpets themselves than hire a carpet cleaning service
- 43 percent of U.S. consumers think carpet cleaning services are worth paying for, but 26 percent don’t feel comfortable having someone from a professional cleaning service in their home
- 22 percent of U.S. consumers say their carpet is dirtier than their toilet seat
“We know from the survey and feedback from our customers that the majority of people clean their carpets to eliminate dirt, dust and stains,” McCann added. “It is imperative to deep clean carpet not only to remove dirt and stains but to help maintain a healthy home environment. The best part about deep cleaning carpet with Rug Doctor machines and products is that one room can be completed in as little as 20 minutes - making it ideal for most anyone.”
