--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Southern California Edison (SCE):
WHAT: |
Southern California Edison (SCE) is about to begin shipping the last of four retired steam generator lower assemblies from the San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station via truck to a disposal site in Clive, Utah. As at the plant, safety is the No. 1 priority during the transport, which will safely pass through San Diego, Riverside and San Bernardino counties before entering Nevada and Utah. |
|||
The steam generator is approximately 700,000 pounds and will be transported by a special 400-foot-long vehicle. The steam generator contains extremely low levels of radiation; the exposure that a person could receive standing five-to-10 feet away from the transport for an hour would be equivalent to a dental x-ray. The transport will travel by night in California and take approximately three weeks to arrive in Utah. |
