California Representatives Loretta Sanchez and Ed Royce Visit Westwood College and See Hands-On Learning in Action

Students, faculty, staff and area employer join representatives in tour

LOS ANGELES--()--Rep. Ed Royce, from California’s 40th District in the U.S. House of Representatives and Rep. Loretta Sanchez, from California’s 47th District in the U.S. House of Representatives, visited Westwood College recently as part of their ongoing tours of businesses, institutions of higher education and community organizations. The visits by the representatives were intended to help them gain a better understanding of the hands-on education Westwood provides its diverse student body.

“Over the past three years, our institution has made sweeping changes to improve the experience and success of our students, from the time they first inquire about Westwood to the on-campus or online support they receive through graduation and entry into the workforce,” said Dean Gouin, chief executive officer of Westwood College. “We were honored to show Rep. Royce and Rep. Sanchez how effectively we serve a nontraditional student body and introduce those students to the individuals who represent them at a national level.”

During her Nov. 1 visit, Rep. Sanchez toured Westwood’s Los Angeles - Anaheim campus, learned more about the Westwood Success program and spoke with more than 200 students from three different business and criminal justice classes. Rep. Sanchez, who serves on the House Joint Economic Committee, also met with representatives from Masimo Corporation, a global medical technology company that has hired several Westwood graduates, to hear how Westwood prepares students for the workforce.

“I have visited Westwood College several times over the past few years, and I deeply enjoy seeing how Westwood provides students with the skills they need to get a job,” said Rep. Sanchez, who was on her fourth visit to the campus. “Westwood is educating students practically, through hands-on training, and I applaud their efforts to improve life for these students and our community.”

At his visit on Oct. 30, Rep. Royce also toured Westwood’s Los Angeles - Anaheim campus. He spoke with more than 150 students and shared his own experience taking courses at a career college to enhance his professional skills after having graduated from California State University, Fullerton. Royce also met with a number of criminal justice students to discuss the impact of anti-stalking legislation he authored and passed at the state and federal level.

“I was pleased to visit the Anaheim campus of Westwood College,” said Rep. Royce. “Education is one of the most important investments we can make to ensure a better future for our country. For-profit colleges, like Westwood College, are playing an integral role in our education system. Students seeking to launch or change careers are offered flexible schedules, hands-on learning, and a practical curriculum that prepare them for a variety of jobs.”
