QUINCY, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--At 6 a.m. this morning, The Stop & Shop Supermarket Company LLC opened the doors to its first store in Wayland, Mass. located at 400 Boston Post Road. The debut of the new, LEED-certified, energy-efficient 45,000 square-foot store will provide Wayland residents with Stop & Shop’s trademark service and commitment to value, community involvement, and healthy living.
Located in the heart of the community at the new Wayland Town Center, the new store reflects Stop & Shop’s dedication to meeting the needs of local residents and neighboring towns. The store will provide a full range of products and services for the community, including full-service meat and seafood departments, a kosher goods section, and expanded fresh produce and organic goods, including Stop & Shop’s affordable line of Nature’s Promise® natural and organic products. Building on Wayland’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, Stop & Shop is also introducing complementary charging stations for electric vehicles in nine parking spots.
Stop & Shop will celebrate its introduction to Wayland residents with a number of activities. As an extension of the store’s focus on green living, Stop & Shop will bag shoppers’ groceries in 20,000 complimentary Stop & Shop reusable grocery bags as they shop throughout opening weekend, while supplies last.
Additional special activities for Wayland shoppers throughout the month include:
- The Passport Program & Kids Passport Program (Friday, Nov. 16 – Sunday, Nov. 18, Saturday, Dec. 1 – Sunday, Dec. 2): Customers can travel and tour designated areas of the store, sample food and collect stamps along the way. Once a customer completes the tour, they can receive a free full size jar of Nature’s Promise organic peanut butter. Hours are 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16; 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Stop & Shop Brands Patrol (Saturday, Nov. 24 – Sunday, Nov. 25, Saturday, Dec. 8 – Sunday, Dec. 9): Stop & Shop is giving $1,000 worth of prizes through its Brands Patrol! Customers that purchase Nature’s Promise and Stop & Shop brand products could win a $10 Stop & Shop gift card. Up to $500 a day will be given away during noon – 3:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
- Kids Entertainment & Mascot Appearances (Friday, Nov. 16 – Sunday, Nov. 18, Saturday, Dec. 1 – Sunday, Dec. 2): Kids can enjoy entertainment and visits from Goldie the Goldfish, the Bimbo bear and others throughout grand opening weekend. In addition, special guest Silly Sally the Clown will offer face painting and balloon animals. Hours for Silly Sally the Clown are noon – 2:00 p.m. Nov. 16-18 and Nov. 24-25; Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 8-9.

- To help make the holidays easier for those in need, Stop & Shop is providing donations to two local hunger relief organizations in Wayland: Parmenter Community Health Care and Celebration International Church.
- Stop & Shop is also supporting local youth with a donation to Wayland Weston Youth Football and Cheerleading and the Wayland High School music program.
- The company also supported the Town of Wayland in its recent efforts to provide disaster relief for a community severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy in Queens, New York. Stop & Shop provided donations of water and supplies and transported approximately $100,000 of goods including generators, heaters, shovels, wheelbarrows, cleaning supplies, clothing, and ready-to-eat meals donated by local residents. This effort immediately followed an announcement of Stop & Shop’s commitment to donate $2.5 million to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

The new Wayland Stop & Shop located at 400 Boston Post Rd. will be open 6 a.m. – 11 p.m. Grand Opening Day, Nov. 16. Regular store hours are 7 a.m. – 11 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 7 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday.
