NEW YORK--()--In time for Veterans Day, Patton Publishing, founded by Helen Patton, announced today the release of Portraits of Service: Looking into the Faces of Veterans, a commemorative, visual tribute to men and women who have served over the last 70 years.

The new book by photographers Robert Miller and Andrew Wakeford presents vignettes representing a cross-section of living war veterans who have made personal sacrifices and, in many cases, have undergone the horrors of combat. The authors approached this project with a desire to recognize these servicemen and women visually through portrait-quality photos combined with personal remembrances of their individual experiences and service to their country. Miller and Wakeford spent over two years interviewing more than 150 vets from five different wars. Among the more than 70 veterans represented in Portraits of Service, some are famous and some are homeless, but they all have one very important thing in common: they put their lives on the line for freedom.

“What resulted through our conversations with hundreds of veterans is a moving and powerful collection of photos that reverberates with the universal truths of veterans’ fears, emotions and experiences,” said Rob Miller. “It’s truly a keepsake that can be passed on for generations to serve as a reminder of what service means and the people who dedicated their lives to their country.”

While photographing veterans, Miller and Wakeford met Helen Patton. She was enamored by the mission of Portraits of Service and agreed Patton Publishing would sponsor the publishing of the book as well as donate a portion of the net profits from the sale of the books through The Patton Foundation, a nonprofit organization she founded. The proceeds will benefit veterans and their families through organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project and the American Military Family Association.

“This book honors a broad cross section of veterans and we hope will be a unifying symbol for future generations,” said Helen Patton, founder and chairman of The Patton Foundation.
