PHILADELPHIA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Neil Boyden Tanner, resident of Wyncote and attorney for Cigna (NYSE:CI), was named one of eight Eisenhower Fellows by General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret). As part of his fellowship, Tanner will travel abroad in 2013 on an intensive five- week individualized professional program to Singapore and China.
Tanner is chief counsel of Cigna Global Health Benefits, the business unit within Cigna dedicated to the needs of the globally mobile workforce. While abroad, he will meet with in-country experts in business, government, and non-profit institutions to study methods that encourage foreign direct investments. Tanner will use this unique opportunity to identify tangible ways to attract more international investment to his home region of Philadelphia.
“We couldn’t be more proud of Neil’s recognition as an Eisenhower Fellow. He joins a stellar group of past fellows who include CEOs, heads of government, ambassadors and university presidents,” said Nicole Jones, Cigna executive vice president and general counsel. “Neil’s global leadership and world view is an asset to Cigna and to Neil’s hometown community of Philadelphia.”
Tanner is currently a non-executive director of United Kingdom Trade & Investment in the United States, and is active in several other international organizations, including the boards of directors of the British American Business Council, where he previously served as president; and the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia, where he previously served as secretary. He is a trustee of the American University of Rome, Italy and serves as scholarship chairman of the USAIRWAYS Education Foundation. Tanner also was formerly the co-membership chair and member of the Extended Bureau (Board of Directors) of the Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (“AIJA” or the International Young Lawyers Association).
Christine Todd Whitman, former governor of New Jersey and chairman of the Executive Committee of Eisenhower Fellowships, commended the Fellowship awardees, saying, “We live in a globalized world. An Eisenhower Fellowship will allow these outstanding men and women to bring new insights from world experts back to their communities and to form a network of lasting relationships that will make them global leaders in their fields.”
