LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ALLOW, the information privacy company, has adopted the UK’s first social media insurance for consumers to deal with the impact of reputational damage, account jacking and all other forms of ID theft. The ground-breaking cover, which ALLOW has put in place for the benefit of all its subscribers will, pay for legal advice and expert support in the event of a claim. This means a dedicated case-worker and hands-on support from professionals from the moment an issue arises.
The support ranges from legal assistance to help from online search experts to locate and remove, or bury, offending material. This process of burying content, or ‘reverse SEO’ as it is known, would normally cost thousands of pounds and is not generally available to the average consumer.
Justin Basini, ALLOW’s CEO said: “There are more cases of hacking, account hijacking and reputational damage emerging all the time. Anyone that has suffered as a result of having their identity stolen or a third party taking over their accounts will know that this can be a distressing and arduous process to put right. We’ve got the solution.”
“This is a unique piece of consumer social media protection, which perhaps wouldn’t have been needed a few years ago. That’s all changed now. Every internet user faces a certain level of risk that one day a digital criminal will target them or that they will suffer damage to their reputation.”
The service is included at no additional cost for ALLOW subscribers and covers them for events such as:
- Disabling an account belonging to them that has been jacked and, where possible, to remove offending content
- In the case of professional reputational damage sustained by them, the requirement to delete offending content where possible or to endeavour to suppress misrepresentative material on the web
- A claim made against them by a financial institute, merchant or collection agencies
- The requirement to remove any criminal or civil judgments wrongly entered against them
- The need to create documents to prove their innocence in respect of any financial irregularities unlawfully committed in their name
The amount insured is £10,000 in professional fees and ancillary costs for any one incident in respect of identity theft or account jacking, or £3,500 in respect of any reputational damage sustained. The policy does not provide a cash pay-out. ALLOW and its partners, who are experts in the areas of online fraud, provide all of the above services for subscribers in the event of a claim. This means that policyholders have a professional team working on their behalf to act quickly to tackle legal or reputational issues.
ALLOW’s insurance backed protection for its members forms an integral part of the ALLOW Protect service, which costs £3.99 per month. ALLOW Protect helps people with Facebook privacy, data protection, cutting down spam/ junk mail, blocking online tracking, and guarding against ID fraud by monitoring their personal data.
