DiBcom, Business Unit of Parrot, Launches Octopus2s, the Digital TV & Radio Chip for Automotive Head Units

The new programmable Chip Octopus2s allows Car manufacturers to embed Mobile TV and Radio in the head unit

IBC2012

PARIS--()--DiBcom, a business unit of Parrot, is pleased to announce a new circuit dedicated to head units, leading to a new stage of Mobile TV and Digital Radio integration into Automobiles. Prior to Octopus2s, digital TV was always offered by Car Makers as a relatively costly Tuner Box sitting in the trunk sending the audio/video signal i to rear seat passengers or to the driver when not moving.

The penetration of TV in cars has reached more than 90% attach rate in Asia. This situation has led Car makers strongly represented in this area of the World, to offer TV as a standard feature in Car Head Units. For this purpose, Octopus2s is a cost effective System-On-Chip offering RF input, single voltage, and digital output to standard head-unit video processors. It supports all active digital TV formats in the World like ISDB-T; DVB-T; DAB/DAB+; T-DMB, CMMB and CTTB; ATSC and ATSC M/H. The standard is programmed into the software defined radio processor, which software has been constantly improved on the field for the last 4 years. This allows car makers to have a single solution for Worldwide deployment.. Previous Octopus chips have been designed in at German, Japanese and Chinese Car Makers.

Associated with a Wifi module, Parrot is offering Octopus2s with a new concept dedicated to the car environment. The benefit is to offer Traffic and Radio for the car driver while the passengers receive TV streaming to their tablets or phones.

“As part of Parrot, a leading innovator in the Automotive market, we are proud to offer this new solution to the car market. This is a new milestone in bringing infotainment to the Automobiles,” says Yannick Levy, VP of the Digital Tuner Business Unit of Parrot.

Octopus2s is sampling now.

Please visit the Parrot booth (3B51, Hall 3) at the IBC show in Amsterdam from Sept 7th to 11th, 2012 and at the Paris Car Show from Sept 29th to Oct 14th, 2012.
