Georgia’s Schoolchildren Get Motivated to Get Active with the Radio Disney WDWD AM 590 and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia
2012 GET ACTIVE, GET FIT SCHOOL CHALLENGE

Georgia’s Elementary School Children Learn to Have Fun While Getting Fit

ATLANTA--()--Radio Disney WDWD AM 590, part of the #1 radio network for kids, tweens and families, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa) are teaming up again for the third consecutive year to promote the importance of childhood health and wellness through the Get Active, Get Fit School Challenge, which is open to kindergarten through fifth grade schools across the state. In 2011, more than 500,000 elementary school students across seven states participated in the program.

Designed to motivate kids and families to achieve fitness together by engaging in fun activities, participants in the challenge should “get active and get fit” for at least 20 minutes every day—or as often as possible. In order to successfully complete the challenge, students must be active for a minimum of 40 of the 55 days in the challenge, which runs from Oct. 1, 2012 through Nov. 24, 2012.

“Getting schoolchildren and their families excited about fitness is the primary goal of this challenge,” said Morgan Kendrick, President, BCBSGa. “This is our third year sponsoring this initiative and I can say that from experience, celebrating with the children, their teachers and parents at a Radio Disney dance party is such a rewarding and high-energy experience. I encourage schools to register, and for the parents and teachers to get involved in motivating kids to get active and fit.”

Registration for the 2012 program opened on Aug. 13, and schools looking to participate must sign up by Sept. 28. All schools that send in their results at the end of the Challenge will be entered into a drawing for the chance to win one of five gym equipment packages worth $500. Schools with the highest participation scores will be awarded Radio Disney dance parties.
