ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The State of California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has selected TransCore ITS to provide its TransSuite® Traffic Control System for managing and centralized monitoring of existing traffic signals statewide, which is scheduled to be fully operational in all 12 Caltrans districts by September 2013.
The TransSuite system will be the cornerstone of Caltrans’ strategy to proactively manage traffic through the monitoring of traffic signals and traffic conditions at state-operated intersections. As part of the project, TransCore ITS will develop an interface to the Caltrans controller firmware to support once-per-second communication plus complete database upload/download for the local controllers.
TransCore ITS’ solution for Caltrans is based on its TransSuite Traffic Control transportation management system software product. It provides Caltrans with a robust, low-risk, highly flexible controller/firmware/central software solution as well as a means to expand to other ITS devices in the future such as CCTV and dynamic message signs.
Michael Mauritz, TransCore managing director for the Western U.S. region, commented, “TransSuite has become the leading traffic control system because of its core technology, ease of use as well as its scalability and expandability, which were key features in Caltrans’ selection.”
As part of this project, the TransSuite software will be installed at Caltrans’ headquarters and its 12 districts. Additional intersections will be brought online over time. Intersections will be integrated into the TransSuite system using serial and/or IP-based communications.
TransCore has been involved in some of the most significant traffic control system projects nationally, including the two largest systems in the United States in Los Angeles and New York City. In Southern California, TransCore recently installed the TransSuite® traffic control system in the cities of Arcadia, Diamond Bar, Alhambra, and West Covina, and was recently selected by Irwindale and Vernon. Elsewhere in California, TransSuite is deployed in the cities of Sacramento, Stockton, and San Jose to manage their traffic signal operations.
TransCore ITS has been providing transportation engineering and intelligent transportation systems solutions for over three decades and is the largest provider of ITS development and integration services in the country today.
