MonetizeDigital Partners with Zinio to Deliver Discounted Magazine Access to Mobile Consumers

Companies Join Forces to Provide Unique Payment Alternative for Zinio Customers

LAS VEGAS--()--MonetizeDigital, an online marketing company that provides content-specific digital monetization solutions for web publishers of all sizes, today announced a partnership with Zinio, the world’s largest and most popular digital newsstand, to allow Zinio Facebook fans to earn credits toward magazine purchases on their mobile devices. In-Stat predicts that 65 percent of all Americans will have a smartphone and/or tablet by 2015, and MonetizeDigital and Zinio are teaming up to provide payment alternatives for digital magazines, such as Forbes and Bloomberg Businessweek, where consumers read them.

The offer, exclusive to fans of Zinio’s Facebook page, asks users to complete a short survey in order to earn $1 off a magazine purchase. Zinio is using MonetizeDigital’s flagship, award-winning solution, The Content Locker, to deliver the advertiser-sponsored surveys, which are completed in exchange for Zinio’s digital content. This process takes the place of other traditional payment methods such as paywalls, digital subscriptions or banner ads, which often drive customers to leave a site or potential purchase. Because consumers can earn credit instead of making direct monetary contributions, they are much more likely to stay at the point of purchase instead of abandoning the content if a paywall was launched. Zinio still generates revenue from the advertiser-sponsored survey, and the consumer is able to enjoy their desired content.

With the digital publishing industry continuing to grow and evolve, Zinio provides its audience with endless access to major news sources and magazines, 24/7. Despite the boom in smartphones and tablets, research from the Pew Research Center’s Project for Excellence in Journalism found that the majority of iPad users (more than 11 percent of U.S. adults currently own an iPad) are not willing to pay for content. That is why Zinio chose to partner with MonetizeDigital, offering a value-added service to its customers who are unwilling to pay for content on their tablet, or other mobile device.

“We continually strive to keep pace with our customers’ needs and expectations, and delivering content when and how they want it, on whatever device they chose, is priority for Zinio,” said Jeanniey Mullen, Zinio Global EVP/CMO. “While consumers are adopting smartphones and tablets at a rapid rate, it is no longer enough to simply provide paid access to that content. End users are looking for alternative ways, and we are pleased to provide our Facebook fan base the chance to earn money off of their magazine purchases with MonetizeDigital’s proven technology.”

“Simply put, our goal at MonetizeDigital is to make it easier for publishers to earn money and for consumers to consume content,” said Peter Tarr, MonetizeDigital CEO. “Zinio is a world-class brand that controls the digital rights to nearly all major magazines worldwide. We recognize how important it is to give consumers alternative ways to access content besides monetary considerations, and MonetizeDigital is providing the tools for publishers to do just that. We are pleased that Zinio selected our technology and look forward to bringing more and more content to consumers worldwide.”
